Karachi doctor warns of severe pain in children carrying heavy school bags

KARACHI: Abbasi Shaheed Hospital’s Deputy Medical Superintendent on Saturday warned managements of schools in the metropolis that children carrying heavy bags are at the risk of neck, back and shoulder pain.

In a letter to school principals, the official detailed his observation that most of the children have visited him complaining of stiff neck, shoulder pain, and backache.

The doctor said the pain could lead to sever lumbago.

After highlighting the prevalence of the problem, he called on the school managements to introduce a system where children are allowed to bring only those books required as per timetable.

The letter has also been widely circulated on social media sites , with users voicing support for the doctor.
