On Monday, September 16, 2019, the office of David Orr hosted a fall leadership event at the Bounce Sporting Club as part of his Good Government Illinois efforts. Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot was present at the event, showing her support for Orr’s work.
Around 125 guests gathered among many other progressive leaders, including Representatives Jan Schakowsky, Robin Kelly, and Jesus “Chuy” Garcia, at the event to back Orr’s agenda for the upcoming 2020 elections. Our plans to support fellow progressives who believe in protecting democracy and expanding government efficiency. Orr’s work and the help of other local leaders promises a strong campaign for the Democratic party in the upcoming election cycle.
Since being sworn in as the next Chicago mayor, Lightfoot set her plans to improve the city in motion. Recently, she has been working to fix the Chicago budget and showing her support for immigrants’ rights in the wake of ICE raids. She has also begun working towards helping struggling businesses and solving housing problems in the inner city. Recently, Lightfoot made headlines with her offer of a 16% pay increase to Chicago public school teachers and an interest in hiring more nurses and librarians to improve the student experience.
